Jordanna G. Thigpen is a Senior Counsel at Johnson & Johnson.

 

Professional Experience

Ms. Thigpen focuses on complex business litigation, entertainment litigation, consumer class actions, partnership disputes, and intellectual property matters. During law school, she operated, and later sold, a retail and wholesale import business with four locations in two states.  Prior to joining Johnson & Johnson, she clerked for the Honorable Ronald Evans Quidachay (Ret.) in the San Francisco Superior Court’s Law and Motion Department. Ms. Thigpen also served as President of the San Francisco Small Business Commission, for which she was named Small Business Advocate of the Year by the San Francisco Small Business Network, and was appointed by then-Mayor Gavin Newsom to serve as Executive Director of the San Francisco Taxi Commission, where she led enforcement efforts, drafted legislation, and oversaw a merger of her department with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

Since 2009, Ms. Thigpen has served as a complex business litigator, obtaining over $265 million dollars in settlements and verdicts on behalf of her clients to date. Her work as lead counsel on In re Medical Capital Sec. Litig. before Judge David O. Carter in the Central District of California secured the largest Ponzi scheme recovery in California history, for which she and her team were nominated in 2013 as Consumer Attorneys of the Year by the Consumer Attorneys of California.  In the entertainment sector, Ms. Thigpen focuses on right of publicity matters, challenging contract and partnership disputes, addressing fraudulent activity, and obtaining profit participation that is due to talent who are not receiving what they are owed from major studios.

Ms. Thigpen has been named a Super Lawyer by her peers every year since 2015. 

Representative Matters

  • Handled profit participation disputes on behalf of Sylvester Stallone (Demolition Man), Glen Larson (Magnum PI, Knight Rider, Fall Guy, Battlestar Galactica), Raymond Wagner (Turner and Hooch), and others
  • Represented as lead counsel numerous class victims of notorious wiretapper Anthony Pellicano and obtained a favorable settlement of their claims against the City of Los Angeles in Zsibrita v. City of Los Angeles, which concerned participation of a Los Angeles Police Department employee in Pellicano’s scheme
  • Represented as lead counsel over 8,000 noteholders in their class claims against Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of New York Mellon to achieve, after a four-year battle, a $219 million settlement in plaintiffs’ favor
  • In first jury trial, obtained high six-figure verdict including punitive damages for the plaintiff for claims involving a fraudulent investment
  • Serves as outside general counsel and strategic and compliance advisor to businesses in various industries, including production companies, a veterinary hospital, and licensed cannabis businesses
